DJ Industry
Is it time DJs were recognised publicly as a service industry?
What or who determines the requirements for such an industry?

When I tell people i'm a dj they seem to change the subject or have little interest. Then I tell them how much i can earn an hour or per gig and they change the attitude. I guess djs are considered lesser than other trades because many seem to think its a hobby.

The industry requirements and standards should be set by working DJs for all types of DJ. Not bloody mobile DJ Associations or licence working parties trying to swell numbers in their little clubs for their way forward.
Groups of nobody's like the licence working party are trying to re-sell the idea of the digital license back to the PPL and the MCPS which will ultimately destroy any hope of a solid DJ industry because they are trying to milk it before its started. No one in the license working party has a bloody clue or has a professional background in negotiating, else they would have said on their own site "who is who", has a degree in what 'subject' or background in, whatever!.
No legal course has been taken to block the licence so it seems a bunch of self elected mobile DJ nobody's want to represent the WHOLE of the DJ industry???
I said before, the LWP are still pressing ahead to push for a DJ licence.
The MAJORITY of DJs say is not welcome by how many actual licence's have been sold!
Less than 500 people have purchased the Digital DJ Licence out of THE WHOLE COUNTRY which has thousands and thousands of DJs.
Imagine the embarrassment to PPL if the figure is closer to less than 300, or 200!!!!!
Go figure LWP.
The WHOLE DJ LICENCE issue is a COMPLETE TURN OFF FOR MOST DJS. GO FIGURE.
Again, why is there a need for a dj licence? Ask the LWP!
Take a look at the LWP site at http://www.djlicence.org.uk/ and see for yourself.
If the subject is so important, why is there only FOUR UPDATES on the website front page since the Digital DJ License was introduced in September 2005?!
Is it a big issue or is no one interested?

"The DJ Licensing Working Party (LWP) held a discussion forum at Sounds Expo 2006 at Olympia2."
Does the site have 500 members who want to be involved and discuss?
100 members???
Go figure.
Even these gems from the latest update about a recent meeting are a joke!

"MCPS representatives went through the proposal document from the LWP and were delighted to confirm that they have incorporated almost all the changes the LWP had asked for. "
So the licence is not being blocked at all. Its being AMENDED to be more attractive to sell to DJs!
More like DJs selling out fellow DJs.

"the majority of the meeting was centred around pricing with the LWP trying to dispel the myths about what DJs really earn and the MCPS representatives explaining that administration costs etc. mean that there is a minimum cost for the licence for them to cover their costs and have any funds to distribute to their members. It is the MCPS members only who stand to lose out as if the price is too high it will be poorly received and taken up by DJs thus yeilding little funds for their members. "
Sorry, but the above statement snippet is a load of old tosh and insulting beyond belief. WHO IS REALLY LOSING OUT HERE?

"In the meantime, it is off to meet PPL for an equivalent meeting. Watch this space."
Yes, we will be watching 'this space' while the meetings go on and on.
Thanks a lot licence working party and whoever funds your 30 PIECES OF SILVER endeavours.
You are truly in another plane of existence and have no grasp of the term DISC JOCKEY or the fundamentals. You don’t even have a clue which side of the fence the majority of DJs rest! Please re-do the maths and judge for yourselves how many Digital DJ Licence's have been sold?????
I truly believe that either one or two (if not all) in the license working party will do very well indeed out of all this.
